Nest magazine, I miss you…

You were the most inspiring, iconoclastic, and outrageous gift to my mailbox during my transitional years of giving up both NYC for SF, and my myriad freedoms for marriage, motherhood.

Although I subscribed as soon as I heard about you, I just missed the sold-out issue #1, fall of 1998. Back then, It was impossible to locate, but I see eBay tempts all seekers now.

From issue #2, I remained faithful all the way to the bittersweet notice of the publication’s closing in 2004. Oh that was a tough last letter to read from your Joseph Holtzman. Most memorable for me besides the ever-surprising physical alterations and permutations of the format itself, was Tony Duquette’s all leopard bathroom and Davis Sedaris’s sister, Amy’s Manhattan apartment.

I’m happy to find sources to share you with other design dreamers:

Jeremy Leslie writes lovingly, in detail, issue by issue, about you:

Tony Duquette’s Home and Garden can be toured:

The feature on Amy thankfully lives on:

and–Wendy Goodman of “Interior Lives” later covered Amy’s home:
